Did you know?

The traditional birthday song "Happy Birthday to You", was written as a classroom greeting in 1893 by two teachers. Although the song was first written in 1893, it wasn't until 1935 that it was copyrighted. In 1988, Birch Tree Group, Ltd. sold the rights of the song to Warner Communications.

Where to start?Planning for a party but don’t know where to start? Then keep reading, this website is full of useful tips and hints to ensure that your party is a great success.

Parties are a great way to get family and friends together no matter what the occasion is, but where do you start?

First decide when and where your party is going to be held. If you are having it in your own home, take into consideration how much room you have got. Furniture can easily be re-arranged to allow more floor space if necessary.

If you are planning to have a party at a venue, check that the function room is available on the date you have chosen.

invitationsNow you have decided when and where to hold your party you need to make a guest list and write out your invitations. Send the invitations out around 2 weeks before your planned event or a little sooner if it’s a holiday season. Don’t forget to include the address where the party is going to be held and the time it is going to start, also include a telephone number so that guests can let you know whether they are able to attend. Invitations are easy to find in the high street, but you could make your own either by hand or on a computer.

party foodFood plays an important part in most parties. Cold Buffets are an easy option as most of the food can be prepared in advance and kept chilled until you are ready to serve it. A hot buffet again is a good option especially if your party is during the winter time. Sit down meals can be more difficult, but it will also depend on how confident you are at preparing and cooking for a large number of guests. During the summer months (weather permitting) you could include a barbecue so that your guests have a choice of hot or cold foods. Click here for more party food ideas

party drinkDrinks must also be taken into consideration when you are planning your party. Many of your guests will possibly bring a bottle of wine or some beer, but you will need to have a good stock of drinks. Remember not everyone will want to drink alcohol, possibly because they have to drive home, or if your guests have children you will need to take this into consideration. If you are supplying spirits don’t forget the mixers. Making a punch is a great idea, there is a good selection of recipes available for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic punch and they make a great table centre. Click here for more party drink ideas

Decoration is another consideration when planning for a party, especially if it’s a special occasion. Choose a colour scheme and then decide what decorations to use. White fairy lights can be used to dress a doorway or window. Helium balloons are attractive when they are in groups of three and are weighted to the floor and can even be used as table decorations. Fresh cut flower arrangements or silk flower arrangements that compliment your colour scheme also make great table centres. Candles and tea-lights are inexpensive and set the mood but should be placed so that they do not pose a danger to anyone or anything. Click here for more party decoration ideas.
